Patrick arrived this afternoon.
He described his idea for the sculpture we are going to create over the next 19 days and said it was partially inspired by the Stella Maris chapel across the lake, an image that stuck with him after his site visit this past May:

After going over some last minute logistics, we took him to dinner at Fisher's Supper Club in Avon. Everyone at the table agreed: the strawberry shortcake with fresh Powdermilk biscuits is not to be missed.
Tomorrow will be an exciting and exhausting first day. Our primary task is to start collecting the thousands and thousands of willow saplings for the sculpture, so the day will be filled with cutting, bundling, and hauling. Given the scale of the sculpture Patrick has in mind, we figure this will take the better part of three days.
Fortunately we don't have to travel far to find them. The Abbey's land has more than enough willow and ironwood saplings for the project, all of which will grow back more abundantly than ever within a few years.
